Not Exactly As Planned, But Still A Great Day

Well, we slept well last night, except for a few loud noises within the building.  We must have been tired as we both slept in well past the time we thought we would - 9am.  This put our plans for day off by about 2 hours, though, and it turns out we are much slower to get ready on vacation than at home.  Anyway, I was able to go for a run, albeit a short run (tomorrow will be longer).  By the time we were ready to go, Bryan no longer wanted iHop for breakfast, unfortunately.  Tomorrow, he promises.

The USS Midway Museum was a great way to spend over 4 hours, learning about the importance of coordinating work and staying loyal to your colleagues in order to make this massive ship function.  With a self-guided audio tour, it helps to keep you moving at your own pace throughout every area in the ship.  We saw living quarters, mess halls, captains' meeting rooms, communications, laundry, and more.  It really was amazing to hear stories from real-life ex-marines recounting their experiences living upon Midway.  The flight deck is filled with a variety of planes, each having been built to support a given need that the navy has had over time.

The view of the harbour is beautiful - sailboats dot the horizon for miles and the waters twinkles in the sunlight.  Later in the afternoon, I finally was feeling warm, and spending time in the sun on such a gorgeous October day was awesome.  We went to the nearby Fish Market for appetizers and drinks after our museum tour.  Fresh fish should be more than abundant in this city, and we were not disappointed in the ahi poke and crab cake appetizers they served.  Too bad we weren't ready for supper because it looked like they had an amazing menu (not to mention a wonderful view of the harbour).

We had planned to go to the beach after our museum tour, but it was so late in the day already that we decided to spend tomorrow at the beach.  I am going to try my hand at surfing and I want to rent a paddle board for at least an hour!  The more I see people running and doing other active things outside here, the more I want to take part in exercise!  It might be necessary with so many good food options available around me.
