Los Cabos Resort Options

Choosing a vacation package from a reputable vacation company can be stressful if you're not sure about the resorts or areas you are interested in, but usually you can be assured that the accommodations have been reviewed by the organization for safety, health and comfort prior to issuing sales to the public. This is one of the reasons many people still opt for using travel agents to book their vacations.  I wonder if the travel agency field is starting to experience dramatic declines in their usage because there have been a lot of articles recently discussing the benefits to using them.  Hmmm.

I enjoy the hours I spend jumping between different travel companies and then comparing customer reviews on sites such as Trip Advisor.  I can be fairly certain that no one is being paid to provide their feedback so it's likely that what I read is generally the truth.  Of course, there are always those grumpy travellers who had nothing but bad luck, so use your judgement.  If 90% of the reviews are the same, you're probably going to experience something similar.

We booked Los Cabos along with our San Diego trip in October, and so far, we only have flights.  This means we're kind of on our own to find a place to stay.  Los Cabos has no shortage of resorts, hotels, and condos to hit up for accommodation, so I'm not worried.

What will be somewhat unique for our 5-day stopover in Cabo will be that we will NOT be staying in an all-inclusive resort.  After some searching through Expedia, Trip Advisor, WestJet and a few other relatively popular hotel search engines, I came across some condos for rent in established resorts.  It seems there are a large number of timeshare condos or homes for rent all over the area.

Things to watch out for when doing your own online search would probably include:

  • Customer reviews and comments
  • Price per bed/room
  • Number of minimum nights you must stay
  • All-inclusive or European meal plan
  • Walking distance (and safety) to grocery stores and other amenities
  • What's included
  • Overall star rating (and then subtract 1)
  • Customer photos
Something I always check for is whether the advertiser is engaged in their rental. Poor or elusive descriptions, terrible grammar, and unprofessional sites usually mean stay away.  Look for rentals or resorts where the management staff or owner actually responds to a customer's feedback.  This is a good indication that they care.

We have narrowed down our search to Vacation Rentals By Owner and have found some lovely lofts and bachelor suites that would certainly suit our needs in Mexico this fall.  I'm quite intrigued by the larger vacation homes that sleep 12+ - would it not be a blast to travel with a bunch of friends to one of these locations?
