Laurier Lounge, A Cozy, Relaxed Dinner Club Event

Through all my research, it's been easy for me to overlook Laurier Lounge.  I'm not sure why:  the French-sounding name (and my bad experience at Belvedere)? it's lack of word-of-mouth reputation among my circle of friends and colleagues?  Whatever the reason, I was extremely intrigued by the choice for our dinner club this month.

What I did not realize was, Laurier Lounge, located in the heart of the Beltline (and easy to mistaken for just another old house in the area), offers fondue experiences, as well as a full menu of other delicious appetizers and entrees. For our group of 12, though, a fondue night seemed like the perfect addition to our club's desire to try new food while gathering to make new friends and catch up with old ones.

Walking in through the front door, we were greeted by a friendly hostess who took us up a narrow, creaking staircase to a small alcove where our party was seated.  I appreciate these old homes that have been restored into restaurants and how they maintain some of the structural integrity, providing small, intimate rooms for various groups.

Their menu offers a variety of appetizers and individual dishes for people not interested in a full fondue meal.  Prices are quite reasonable, at least compared to some other fondue restaurants I have visited!

The majority of our group chose their basic fondue meal, which was only about $35 per person!  The meal began with a cheese fondue - the blend of traditional cheeses was a perfect start to the meal.  Each group of 2 people received a fondue with its appropriate dipping foods, which was an adequate amount of food throughout the meal.

Following the cheese fondue, we were served a beef broth fondue along with a large selection of veggies - zucchini, a potato, mushrooms and broccoli.  A trio of dipping sauces - savory, spicy, and mild - accompanied the fondue.

Our beef for dipping was uniquely served, small, thin pieces spiralled around each other and formed into an intriguing lump of meat!  It did make taking each piece fairly simple for us though.

And, of course, the meal would not have been complete without a chocolate fondue!  Served with the chocolate was a collection of fruit along with a few pieces of a delicious white cake.

For a splendid, exciting night out that promotes active conversation among friends, Laurier Lounge is the perfect spot.  I am so happy to have finally tried this place, but I seriously do wonder, what took me so long?
