Reflect Krystal -- Los Cabos, Mexico

We are back in travel mode again!  It's about time...seems like forever ago that we were in the ABC islands!  And what a stressful, not-so-fun past few months it has been.

My life seems to just be one drama after another, plus I'm growing my holistic nutrition business, Mind Body Healthy, as quickly as I can.  So, we needed a vacation but I didn't have the time or energy to plan a big trip...and we opted for an all-inclusive with a single plane ride away.

And here we are at the Reflect Krystal Resort right in Los Cabos, Mexico.  Since we've been to Cabo San Lucas before (twice for me!), we thought we'd stay closer to the airport this time and try really hard to get up to La Paz to snorkel with the whale sharks...reservations are pending!

Arrival at the Resort

This resort is a member of the AMResorts family, so the Now, Dreams, Secrets, Breathless, etc.

Upon first impression of the Reflect Krystal, we think they're doing a pretty good job of living up to the AMResorts reputation but still need some improvements.

Our AI trip was on the economical side, with no upgrades or anything.  We just wanted a bed to sleep in and a pool to lounge beside, for the most part.  Our room was assigned at check-in yet we had to come back at 3:30 for the keys.  Fair enough. However, the lady at the front desk started arguing with Bryan over the room number we'd been given, saying we shouldn't have that room.  He said he didn't care, but that was the number we'd been given.

Anyway...she gave us keys and away we went.  Um, yeah, we got upgraded from the cheapest room they offer to what I believe is the most expensive style of room.  It's a condo, with a kitchen, dining room, living room, and all that stuff.  Lots of room!  And, our garden view we paid for?  Nope, we have this fantastic view of the ocean from 4 floors up, unobstructed!

Our unplanned room upgrade!

The downside, though, is this resort took over buildings from another one and it seems like our building was maybe an old condo or timeshare.  It doesn't look like the rest and it's across the road from the resort.  And we are right beside the main highway.  So, needless to say, it's ridiculously loud!  The bedroom faces the highway so you can imagine how well I am sleeping!

But, it's clean, the service for the room seems great.  Overall, we're happy with the resort.  The food has been delicious.  The music by the pool is really good (it's not all salsa!!!), the staff are so friendly and they are so fun to try to speak Spanish with!  All in all, we're happy with this place.  It's big, we have to walk a lot, but that's never a problem!

Oh, and the beach is really nice here.  We can't really go into the water as the waves are massive, but it's a beautiful, long, wide beach to walk along.  And the humpbacks are out about 1/2 - 1 mile from shore so we've been watching them blow water and then surface.  No breaches yet but I'm hopeful!

Me on the beach on front of the resort!  It's beautiful!

Twilight view from our balcony.

We arrived Friday and ended up just hanging out around the resort.  We ate at the buffet for dinner and drank a lot of alcohol at the lobby bar!  Of course!  I spent the day in my hoodie because the breeze is cool!

Saturday, naturally, I had to hit the gym.  It's frustrating that I'm now so used to a full gym but also very freeing to know that I can easily adapt when I need a good workout and there aren't a lot of options!  I had a great workout as it turns out.

We spent the day lounging by the pool, reading, drinking, and suntanning.  The weather was awesome that day - I got a wee bit of color.  We had reservations at a local farm-to-table restaurant northeast of Los Cabos for 6:30, but they said come early and tour the farm.  So...we thought we'd head up around 4:00 pm.  Well,  it had been a talking point on the plane and on the resort about what the local time was.  Turns out we are an hour behind Calgary so we ended up at the farm at 3:30 instead of 4:30.  Not a big deal...just meant we ended up sitting at the bar waaaay longer than we should have!

The farm is called Flora Farms.  They have quite a big establishment, growing all their local produce and some protein.  They explicitly state that, due to water concerns, they will never raise and serve beef, which I thought was good.  The area is turning into a sustainable living complex as well, with houses made from straw!  Yep, in between the girders and concrete wall covers it is straw bales!

We toured the farm, enjoyed some time at the bars talking with some drunk people from California...and had an absolutely delicious dinner!  If anyone is ever in the area, I highly recommend this place.  It was super popular, too - very busy.

Me - Happy in the garden!

Papaya Tree!

Baby Mangos!

Little Red F350!

I had to play on the slide...

The beautiful purple drink the bartender made for me.

One of the two farm dogs...she took a liking to Bryan (of course)!

Us...happy to be out exploring!

The dinner tables set up outside.

Interesting cocktail with jalapeño...not a guzzling drink!

Waiting for dinner!

My Chicken Pot Pie!

Bryan's half chicken.

The farm kitty who came out for a bite.

Today was COLD!  It was overcast (it had rained last night too) and very windy.  I spent the day curled up in a towel.  We did spend some time by the water and the pool, but it was a great day for a nap too!  Bryan forgot his snore guard so I had a crap sleep last night.

Shrimp cocktail from The Grill restaurant at our resort - delicious and very nicely presented.

My St. Patrick's Day "Green" drink - it was terrible.  I got another "green" juice from the cafe that was made from vegetables.  hahaha

And, again, we hit the gym this afternoon because, hey, why not???  I have to admit, I feel MUCH better after a good workout!
