Tasty Thai

After a brief summer hiatus, our group gathered together on the weekend for September's installment of our dinner club.  This month, Thai was chosen as the theme, and we settled on the restaurant only after we had our numbers in - Khao San Thai Kitchen on 17th Avenue SW.  When we called to make our reservation, they told us they couldn't reserve for larger than 10 due to the size (and popularity) of this small restaurant.  That's understandable as they had a line up out the door from 7pm onwards, and they probably can only seat 40-50 people, with the patio open.

Our wait staff were outstanding, with only a minor mix-up over our separate bills at the end of the evening.  With 10 people requesting more drinks, add-ons and other items at various times, often while the waitress was trying to concentrate on another task for someone else at the table, we all were very impressed that we received our orders quickly and without issues.  The staff seemed very organized and efficient, as well as attentive and friendly, which isn't something I can say about many similar establishments.

The food was outstanding!  We opted to share quite a few of the appetizers, and then each order our own 1-2 main dishes (some of which were shared between friends or couples).  We especially enjoyed the Poung Chom-Poo - chicken dumplings with a fabulous flavor that came out pink! - and Khao San Salsa Scallops - tender, juicy scallops cooked to perfection.  Others enjoyed the two flavors of satay - chicken and beef - and the spring rolls, too, while two people were impressed with their Tom Yam soup.

For main dishes, the Crying Tiger signature dish was quite popular, and everyone who tasted the rib eye raved about it.  My Prawn Pineapple Red Curry was awesome - I love the flavors of Thai red curry and pineapple and who doesn't love coconut milk???  For this taste combination, Thai has definitely become my absolute favorite food from the Asian countries, making me want to travel the Thailand more and more to experience some local fare!

For our first dinner club of the fall, Khao San Thai Kitchen did not disappoint.  In fact, I can't wait to go there again and try one of the other yummy-sounding dishes they offer!  I completely understand why it is such a popular spot to visit.
