Without Papers: Another Inglewood Gem

Inglewood holds a special place in my heart and I truly want each and every business that operates there to thrive.  I also hope for a different take on the traditional when I explore what this beautiful community has to offer.  Without Papers, a delightful pizza joint in the old Nectar Desserts (another past gem of this neighborhood) location, combines the area's sense of history with their unique, hand-tossed, authentic Italian-style pizzas.  The stairs creak from age and use as you climb the narrow entryway into the restaurant, where, at the top, the room opens up into one expansive, modern area.  Complete with an open kitchen and a small bar where you can watch the chef making the tasty crusts, the room exudes an airy, comforting atmosphere that makes you just want to sit back and relax while enjoying amazing food with friends and family.

Added to this ambiance is the constant showing of various films on opposing walls.  Our December evening in Without Papers offered us both a chance to view Miracle on 34th Street and The Polar Express for the duration of our stay.  These films play silently but their added content to the overall style complete the restaurant's overall decor.

Did I mention the pizzas are fantastic?  Never have I had an unexceptional pizza at Without Papers.  There is a reason reservations are highly recommended or you'll be waiting for hours for a table on its busiest nights!

We are always looking for ways to try a number of different menu options when we go out, so our evening began with a couple of drinks - wine for me and beer for Bryan.  We had no place to be and needed a relaxing evening out together, so we decided to start with the Assorted Meats and Cheese plate to share.  Out came a massive platter filled with Italian meats (turkey breast, ham, prosciutto) and a variety of cheeses (mozzarella, brie) along with some pizza-crust bread and spreads.

This appetizer is quite large, though, and probably would have been better if we had had two more people with us!  As I don't eat a lot of the meats that were served, Bryan had his work cut out for him!  But, as I do like to play with my food, this dish did offer me the ability to test out a bunch of different flavors and creations.

This one was a slice of the crust, turkey, cheese and pickled peppers and shallots, along with a lovely, sweet dipping sauce (I did not catch the name).

Pizzas were a must for both of us, with my trying out their Hawaiian 5-0 without the bacon.  Served with tomato sauce, jalapenos, pineapple and two different kinds of cheeses, this pizza was simply outstanding!  I love how light and fresh the crust is - it reminds of the many pizzas we tried during our time in Italy.

Bryan needed more meat after that platter so he chose the Hutch.

Without Papers pizza is fabulous and Inglewood is so lucky to have such a wonderful, intimate pizza restaurant right in its community.  If only I lived there again - I would be back to sample more creations on a much more regular basis!

Oh, and the service we had on this wonderful Thursday evening was great.  Our waitress was attentive and came by often to check on how we were doing.
