Fabulous Find in Quarry Park

With a name like "The Park", are you really sure what you may find behind its doors?  Well, don't let this stop you from trying out this wonderful gem of a restaurant in Quarry Park.  Located in the old Baton Rouge building, on the corner of 18th Street SE and Quarry Park Blvd SE, not only does The Park offer fresh, sustainable and locally produced food options, but they have a fabulous west-facing patio unobstructed by tall buildings!  With these types of outdoor seating options few and far between in this city, we were especially excited that The Park offers us a well-rounded dining and drinking option in our neighborhood.

Aside from some decor alterations and removed walls, the inside of the restaurant looks quite similar to Baton Rouge (albeit more cheerful).  Both the dining room and the lounge are quite large and always seem to have room for customers when we stop in, usually for a weekend lunch, late afternoon beer on the patio, or dinner.  I cannot, yet, speak to the lunchtime situation.

Since relocating to the southeast a few years ago, I have missed local options that serve Wild Rose Wraspberry beer; along with this delicious summertime drink, The Park has an extensive list of beer, wine and cocktail options.  Happy hour runs daily from 3-6, with slightly smaller sized portions of regular appies on for a decent price; the establishment also offers daily drink and food specials, like half priced wine on Wednesdays and reduced-priced Stella draught on Fridays.

As I have only been to The Park 3 times, I haven't yet tried many of the menu offerings that look so tasty!  However, what I have eaten has been divine.  My favorite appetizer is quickly becoming my regular fare - their sriracha ginger wings are hot and flavorful, a definite must for the wing-lover!  Loaded with fresh vegetables, the nachos are also a very pleasing snack for watching sports and drinking beer.

I absolutely loved the beet salad with arugula and goat cheese, and can't wait to try out a few of their other salad dishes, such as their quinoa-based one.  I believe they have just introduced a more summer-centric menu so check it out for lighter fares, burgers and pizzas.

A subsequent visit this past weekend meant that I could try one of their burgers, and so I opted for the chicken and pineapple one.  Along with a delicious fresh garden salad with their house dressing, it was not hard to feast upon this yummy lunch!  My friend was impressed with her veggie burger as well, and my boyfriend loved his pork tacos from the previous evening.

Not only do I fully support the philosophy and mission of The Park, I am extremely satisfied with the menu offerings (gluten-free items are widely available, too, as well as vegetarian ones) and have been overwhelmed by the helpful, efficient and friendly staff on all three of my visits.  I hope to return soon and continue to experience this amazing experience.
