Final Belizian Days

But not forever! I really liked Caye Caulker so I think it's now time to start really looking for business and/or property investment opportunities there. I need to also dream up and research possible moneymaking opportunities as well, hopefully fulfilling the adage "do what you love"! Our island transportation Tuesday we went diving with Frenchie's, a PADI certified dive shop on Caulker. They took us out to the reef where we did two 60-70 foot reef dives. The company was great - professional and safe - and we enjoyed our morning out in the water. The fish life wasn't anything crazy but I still love seeing the colourful, serene small fish in action. Most people it seems are now wanting to see bigger and more exotic fish life after they've dived a few times. Sure, a hammerhead or a manta ray would have been cool but I'm happy with what we did see. There were quite a few lion fish on the second dive, too. After diving, we had lunch and took the guys ba

Caye Caulker - Best for Last

We arrived via water taxi here in Caye Caulker, and as we stepped off the boat, Bryan remarked, "I like this place already!" I think we all have agreed this has been our favorite location of the trip. Caye Caulker is very laid back but still busy at peak times. People are mellow, both locals and tourists alike, and no one is in a rush to get anywhere or do anything. In fact the island's motto is "Go Slow!" There are people from all over the world here and many younger backpackers. We have met women travelling alone, who feel safe and secure on the island. The shops are few and the restaurants very local in style and food. However, surprisingly, there is a Starbucks. I think the only vehicles on the island are those used for specific construction projects; otherwise, people bicycle, drive scooters or golf carts, or simply walk. It's not a super large island (the Caye is actually two because rumor has it a hurricane in the 60's split the island into

Up at 5:00am, on the dock by 5:20 awaiting our pick up off to the dive shop to be fitted for gear, and off to the BLUE HOLE shortly after 6:00!!!! Yep, we found a dive company heading out. Scott booked us all in for Friday and Bryan decided at the shop he couldn't miss out on this and signed up for diving instead of snorkelling. He's so happy he did! So, the saga that turned into a fun, fabulous day on and in the water began back home while researching diving companies. Trip Advisor is a great resource but you do have to take some reviews with a grain of salt. Some people will never be happy no matter what, while others focus on entirely the wrong thing. Scott and I read through the reviews on many, many San Pedro dive shops and we looked specifically for PADI certified shops because we both think that shows their dedication to safety and the experience of divers. Of course, while this is likely 90% true, as with any certification, a piece of paper does not always indica

Diving in Belize and Other Adventures

Okay, it's day 5 in this condo in San Pedro and I'm starting to feel like I could live here and figure things out pretty quickly. I'm getting a sense of being "at home" in this place. I told Bryan when we get home we need to have some serious talks because I have become quite fond of this country and I still think it would be a place to relocate to or at least purchase vacation property. I have some ideas....And Kitten would love it here, too! Anyway, Scott and I were able to dive on Wednesday with a company called Chuck and Robbie's. Our bartenders at a couple of the nearby spots recommended them so we thought we'd try them out. Plus, they are steps outside the condo doors. The dive master took the two of us diving and brought along four people, including Bryan, for snorkelling. The trip out itself was quick, as you can seen the edge of the reef from shore. I imagine there are tons of diving opportunities out there and I don't think I would get
